How about the one where you don’t get your way?
But even if you do, that’s okay.
Those lyrics have special meaning to our night, but I’ll explain that later. Jamie Cullum is by far one of our favorite artists. He’s a singer, songwriter, and a great musician. We recently purchased his album “The Pursuit” after seeing him on a rerun of the Ellen Show a few weeks ago. We were listening to the album nonstop after we got it, and Jim looked up his tour dates. He was in Birmingham, Alabama in 6 days! No time to spare, we purchased the tickets and booked a hotel room. Birmingham might be close, but we were not about to drive home after the show.
Last Saturday, July 10, was the concert at the Stephens Center. Thanks to Uncle John for giving us tips on dinner and parking!
The show was amazing! We had 15th row seats and a great view of the stage. Jamie played all his hits and was great at getting the crowd involved. That’s kind of hard to do with the very conservative crowd that night, but he did it. He came into the audience and was within a few feet of our seats. See the pictures of how close we were. Then everyone got close to the stage for a more intimate setting. More pictures. I’ve seen Elton John, Billy Joel, and Harry Connick, Jr. in concert; and Jamie Cullum was my favorite performer of these great pianists/singers/songwriters.
Back to the song lyrics. The show was over and I was tired. It was time to go back to the hotel and call it a night, right? Wrong. Jim wanted to wait near the tour bus with the other diehards and get a chance to meet Mr. Cullum (and his band). I really did not feel up for staying out any later (and it really wasn’t that late). I was a party-pooper to the max I must say. I wanted my way; Jim wanted his way. Jim was driving, so I really had no choice. We parked near the bus and waited with some other fans. And boy was it worth it. We met his band and then Jamie himself. He was super nice to us with Euro kisses and hugs. See the picture! It wouldn’t have happened if I got my way.
Lesson to all of us that can’t quite go-with-the-flow: just go-with-the-flow! It might surprise you.
Much love,
The Paisleys
It was nice to get my way!
