I can't say today was too interesting or productive. I've been to more meetings this week than in the past 6 months! So many meetings that I can't really sit down and actually do some work. There are so many questions with our project that it's a bit hard to get a handle on.
So I've been feeling a cold coming on slowly yesterday and today. I like to fight colds with exercise. I believe if you heat the body and realign yourself you have a fighting chance against the cold. I went to the IronWorks gym on base and took a yoga class this evening. It was a fairly good class. Mostly women, of course! And mostly Japanese nationals too. I was happy to see 2 enlisted guys in the class. I always enjoy yoga class because it reminds me to slow down, breathe, and be in tune with my thoughts and not on other people. Bringing awareness inwards instead of outwards. It is so hard to be at work 24/7 as I feel that I am. I am on the same hall as all my co-workers and we eat every meal together. I need my personal time and space. Fortunately, I can do that with yoga. Since I've been a little under the weather I left our workspace a little early today and relaxed in my room. I'm praying and hoping that I get all of Sunday off to myself to site see in Iwakuni. I just don't do very well when I work every single day, especially after traveling 7500 miles to the project site to live on site. My body is under some serious stress.
Life on base is interesting. The converted barracks that we are staying in are next to actual barracks. I walked back from the gym this evening and could hear loud music, see huuuuge TVs (where did those young guys get the money for that??), and hear them talking. I don't know how they do it. Living so far away from home and constantly preparing for military operations. You have to be a little bit crazy, right? It's mostly men but I've seen a few women. One girl this morning at the coffee shop had on her camo uniform with full makeup and acrylic nails! Awesome! Way to express yourself in a land of brown.
I usually have a good sense of direction, but I've had a hard time finding my way around on base. I can get from my room to a few places, but the roads are not in a grid and all the buildings are white, two story buildings with square windows. This base was originally a Japanese military base before WWII, and it's rumored that Pearl Harbor was planned and executed from here. Now the Japanese are paying big money to expand the U.S. base.
Tomorrow is Friday. Not sure if that means it'll be TGIF or not since I fear I will have to work on Saturday. Booooo! I'll do everything I can not to work all weekend.
That's all for today.
